The Chandigarh Police has been adjudged the best among the States/UTs and got the first position in the country for speedy passport verification of applicants during 2023-2024. As Chandigarh picked the first prize, Himachal Pradesh stood second and Delhi stood third in the all-India ranking in this category. The ‘Certificate of Recognition’ by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi, for their exemplary services in the speedy passport verifications was awarded on Saturday by Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs, during the Regional Passport Officers Conference held at Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan in New Delhi, which was part of the high-level segment of the Passport Seva Divas celebrations, marking the enactment of the Passports Act 1967. The award was received by Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP, UT, Chandigarh. Meanwhile, Surendra Singh Yadav DGP, UT, Chandigarh, commended the passport and Samavesh team, along with all beat officers for achieving this feat. A police officer said the Certificate of Recognition acknowledges the Chandigarh Police's high level of service, commitment, and contribution to good governance through the efficient and timely verification of passport applicants. The event brought together representatives from 37 passport offices across India, along with officials from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration and senior MEA officials, to discuss and improve passport service delivery. Dr KJ Srinivasa, Joint Secretary (PSP) and Chief Passport Officer emphasised the criticality of police verification in the passport issuance process and lauded the Chandigarh Police for their outstanding performance.
