Chandigarh: The exception – He got claim within six months

The forum pronounced order in his favour on November 19, 2015, and he got the claim from the company on January 1, 2016.

PANCHKULA RESIDENT Amarnath Singla should count himself lucky as he got his claim within six months after filing a complaint before the Panchkula district consumer dispute redressal forum.

Amarnath, a resident of Sector 7, Panchkula, had approached the forum on July 23, 2015, with a complaint against Oriental Insurance Company. The forum pronounced order in his favour on November 19, 2015, and he got the claim from the company on January 1, 2016.

As awarded by the forum, Amarnath got Rs 6.2 lakh along with interest at the rate of 9 per cent from the date of filing of the complaint, Rs 15,000 on account of towing/lifting of the vehicle to the workshop, an amount of Rs 10,000 for harassment and Rs 5,000 for litigation expenses. Amarnath was represented by his son Vijay before the forum.

Vijay, a property dealer by profession, maintains that he filed his complaint after doing the groundwork. “I gathered all the documents and evidence before approaching the forum. This is one reason why we were able to get our claim within six months,” he says. “People usually file their complaint without completing the documents and the case lingers on.”
