Chandigarh: One dies in hit-and-run accident

A man lost his life in a road accident near the Airport Light Point on Monday evening after his motorcycle was hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle.

The victim, identified as Gagan, a resident of Ambala Cantt, was riding a motorcycle with his friend Satinder when the accident occurred. Both were rushed to GMCH-32, Chandigarh with serious injuries, but despite medical efforts, Gagan succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Satinder was under treatment at the hospital.

Police have registered FIR under sections 281, 125(A), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the police station in Sector 31 against the unknown driver, who fled the scene. The investigation is underway to trace the vehicle and its driver.

The Chandigarh Police also registered two more accident-related FIRs over the past two days. In one case, an FIR has been registered at the police station in Sector 11 against Harwinder, a resident of Sector 23/B, who was driving a car (Zen). He allegedly hit the motorcycle of Vinod Kumar, a resident of Sector 42/B, at the Sector-15/16 light point on September 14. Vinod, along with his wife and daughter, sustained injuries and was admitted to GMSH-16 Chandigarh. The accused was arrested during investigation and later granted bail.

In another case, an FIR was registered at the police station in the Industrial Area against Anurag Verma, a resident of Daria, for rash driving of a canter truck. On September 15, he hit the bike of Ashok Kumar of Behlana near the Poultry Farm Chowk slip road. Ashok, along with his son and daughter, suffered injuries and was admitted to GMCH-32. The accused was arrested and subsequently released on bail.

Police officials said investigations in all three cases are in progress, and efforts are being made to identify the vehicle responsible for the fatal accident near the Airport Light Point.
