Chandigarh Mayor Kuldeep Tita among AAP leaders detained in Delhi
Raising slogans of "Kejriwal Zindabad", AAP leaders had reached the Patel Chowk Metro station in Delhi, calling for a march to PM Narendra Modi's residence.

The Delhi Police on Tuesday detained Chandigarh Mayor Kuldeep Kumar Tita along with other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors near Patel Chowk in the National Capital.
Earlier in the day, Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains was also detained from the spot as party leaders gathered to protest against the arrest of AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case.
Raising slogans of “Kejriwal Zindabad”, AAP workers and leaders had reached the Metro station in the area, calling for a march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on Lok Kalyan Marg where Section 144 has been imposed in view of the protests. AAP leader Somnath Bharti was also among the several protesters detained.
Speaking to The Indian Express, AAP councillor and former Leader of Opposition in the Chandigarh civic body Yogesh Dhingra, said, “We all came to Delhi in our own vehicles to hold a protest. But now we – including the Mayor – have been bundled into a vehicle… Isn’t it our right to protest? We were picked up from near the Jantar Mantar site. What is our fault? We are just protesting.”
“We don’t know exactly where they are taking us…They said they are taking us to Najafgarh police station,” Dhingra added.
Prior to this, the AAP had protested in Chandigarh on March 23 alleging that “the BJP is misusing all the agencies of the country and arresting the leaders of Opposition parties in false cases.”
“Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by the ED in a false case. All this has been done as part of a conspiracy by the BJP. Now this arrest has happened since Kejriwal was starting to campaign for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections,” the AAP leaders had said then.
