A popular TV serial actor, Chandigarh lad Ranveer Singh Malik is lately winning hearts through his performance in the recently released Haryanvi video song, ‘AC Lagwade…’ In the song set on mixed beats of Haryanvi and Western musical instruments, Malik shakes a leg with Archana Gautam of Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi fame. The video song has been directed by Sahil Sandhu. “It is a woman-centric song where Archana Gautam is insisting her husband replace a 1994-era ceiling fan with an air-conditioner. She had chosen me for the role because she was fully aware of my Haryanvi roots. My grandparents were from Kaithal in Haryana and I was born and brought up in Chandigarh. Archana Gautam hails from Meerut in UP. This is the first song where I performed. I believe I have done justice to my role,” Malik told Indian Express over the phone from Mumbai. Currently essaying a role in ‘Pyar ka Pehla Naam: Radha Mohan’ serial, Malik said, “I was comfortable when Archana told me about the song. After all, who would not love to work on a project that is somehow close to one’s own culture.” The song was released on YouTube on September 2 and has been viewed more than 22.50 lakh times. It has also earned almost 30,000 likes. A science graduate from Chandigarh DAV College Sector 10, Malik has appeared in TV serials including Ye Hai Mohabbatein, and Suhaani Si Ek Ladki, among others. Malik credited the atmosphere of Chandigarh for instilling the passion of acting in him. He said his elder sister, Manpreet, encouraged him to try his luck in Mumbai. Now settled in Mumbai, Malik has also done four Marathi movies.
