Himanshu Gupta a resident of Sector 15 was felicitated by his alma mater,DAV School in Sector 15 on Saturday for creating history by securing full marks in Physics at the All India Pre-Medical Test 2011 held on May 15.
He also has to his credit the highest marks in the same subject in the Chandigarh Common Entrance Test (CET) this year.
Originally from Chandigarh,Himanshu is now in New Delhi undergoing MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College.
Thanking his father and mentor Professor S C Gupta for helping him secure 120 out of 120,Himanshu said: It was only possible due to the support and guidance of my parents.
Aiming to specialise in Orthopaedics,though Himanshu expressed his desire to undertake research in medicine,he has no plans to give up Physics. Both the subjects are inter-related. Today,one can see a lot of dependence of medical stream on Physics. Thus,I want to utilise my knowledge and edge on this subject, he said.
DAV School Principal Dr Rakesh Sachdeva said Himanshu also has to his credit clearing all competitive medical examinations with good ranks. He bagged the 10th position in AIPMT,came 47th in AIIMS,20th in Benaras Hindu University and third in Chandigarh CET. He also cleared AFMC as well as the National Biology Olympiad.
Meanwhile,felicitating Himanshu at a ceremony,MP Avinash Rai Khanna said: Such talented youngsters are the foundation of this nation,who will take India to new heights. Former mayor (Municipal Corporation) Anu Chatrath also honoured Himanshu and discussed ways to engage city youth in development activities.
