Chandigarh records hottest day ever in May at 44.5 degrees Celsius, MET warns of heat wave

This record temperature was 5.6 degrees above normal, according to MET officials

In a sudden sharp rise, Chandigarh recorded 44.5 degrees Celsius on Friday, the highest temperature in the month of May since records began in 2011.

This record temperature was 5.6 degrees above normal, according to MET officials. The Chandigarh Meteorological Department has issued an alert for severe heat wave conditions expected to prevail until May 20, with temperatures possibly reaching 46 degrees Celsius. Residents are advised to take precautions.

When asked, Scientist Shivender Singh from the MET department said, “Temperatures are going to rise over the next five days, and we suggest people be careful and take precautions. We have also issued an advisory.”

The minimum temperature on Friday morning was 26.7 degrees Celsius.

The temperature increased suddenly. On Tuesday, May 14, the maximum temperature was 39.7 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, it was 41.9 degrees Celsius, and on Wednesday, May 15, it was 41 degrees Celsius.

Severe heat wave conditions have already begun in many parts of Haryana, with Sirsa reporting a maximum temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius, the highest among all districts, while Samrala in Punjab recorded 46.3 degrees Celsius.

An orange alert has been issued by the MET department, advising residents to “Be prepared.”
