‘High-speed chase’ leads to arrest of four youths, including nephew of slain history-sheeter

Four youths, including the nephew of slain history-sheeter and controversial property dealer Sonu Shah, were arrested at noon on Thursday reportedly after a high-speed chase and physical confrontation near the jungle area in Sector 50, Chandigarh.

The accused, identified as Amarveer Singh (18), Tushar Shah (20), Lakhwinder Singh (22) and Abhinav Singh (18), were arrested and have been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 at PS-49, Inspector Om Prakash, SHO, Chandigarh, said.

The accused were produced before the court on Friday, where they were sent to judicial custody.

According to the police, the incident unfolded when Constable Inder Pal, who was on routine patrolling duty, spotted a suspicious white car parked near the jungle with four young men sitting inside. Sensing unlawful activity, he immediately returned to the police station to seek assistance and returned to the spot with Constable Anil Mor.

Upon the police team’s arrival, the suspects attempted to flee the scene at high speed. A chase ensued, with the suspects driving recklessly through internal roads of Sector 50, heading towards the deeper jungle area near the Sports Complex. As the police tried to intercept them by taking an alternate route via Progressive Society, the suspects, in a desperate bid to escape, rammed their car directly into the constables’ vehicle, Prakash said.

Despite the impact and a scuffle that followed, both constables managed to overpower and arrest all four accused, however the constables received injuries during the encounter, the SHO said.

All four arrested accused are students or unemployed youth, with educational qualifications ranging from Class 12 to graduation.

During interrogation, it was revealed that some of the accused already had criminal records, the police official said.

Chandigarh Police has launched an investigation into the matter to uncover any possible criminal links or networks.
