The proposed move is aimed at bringing in more transparency with regard to transfers of police personnel.

If all goes as per plan, transfers of Group A and Group B personnel of Chandigarh police will soon be done by the Chandigarh administration. The proposed move is aimed at bringing in more transparency with regard to transfers of police personnel.

At present, all transfers in the police are done by the Police Establishment Board (PEB) headed by UT inspector general of police (IGP). Other IPS officers are also members of the board, which was constituted in 2007 on directions of the apex court.

The administration is building the case on a circular, which says that any posting or transfer of Group A employees have to be approved by the administrator, while posting and transfer of Group B employees have to be approved by the UT adviser.
