Chaitanya Hospital bags Rajiv Gandhi award

Chaitanya Hospital,Sector 44,a dedicated mother and child care hospital,has bagged the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards,2010,which were announced in New Delhi on Monday.

Chaitanya Hospital,Sector 44,a dedicated mother and child care hospital,has bagged the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards,2010,which were announced in New Delhi on Monday.

In fact,Chaitanya Hospital has become the first hospital in the country to have received an award in the category of small scale service industry. Prior to this,in 2007,a Kolkatta-based hospital and in 2009,a Delhi-based hospital received a commendation certificate each.

“It is a great honour for the entire medical industry and a matter of pride for us. Such a recognition motivates us to constantly assess ourselves on the parameters of quality and excellent patient care,” Dr Neeraj Kumar,managing director of the hospital,told Chandigarh Newsline.

For the Rajiv Gandhi Awards,award winners and recipients of commendation certificates were selected from a total of 64 applicants from various sectors. The awards would be presented by Prof K V Thomas,Minister for Consumer Affairs,Food and Public Distribution,in a ceremony scheduled to be held later.

The awards,given annually,were instituted by the Bureau of Indian Standards in 1991 with a view to encouraging Indian manufacturing and service organisations to strive for excellence and giving special recognition to those,who are considered to be the leaders of quality movement in India.

The hospital is only one in the region in the small sector to have a facility of ambulance for ferrying sick babies upto a distance of 200 km. An NABH accredited centre from Quality Council of India among small sector hospitals,the centre was recently awarded FICCI Health Care Award for excellence in patient care for 2010.
