CBI to soon question members of Chandigarh Housing Board panels

The keys of the flats to 10 beneficiaries were handed over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the city on September 11.

Members of the evaluation and screening committees of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) will soon be questioned by the CBI in connection with irregularities in the self-financing housing scheme in Sector 63.

CBI sources said that the preliminary probe raised eyebrows on the surveys and the screening of the documents by the CHB officials, so they would question all the officials who were part of both evaluation and screening committees of the project.

The CBI, sources said, had found some irregularities in the files pertaining to the documents related to the tenders which were screened by two different committees of CHB. Some officials who were part of the project from day one have already been questioned.

The project which was allotted to contractor B L Mehta is still incomplete. The contractor was given extensions despite delays in the projects and no action was taken against the company, sources said. “It is strange how a contractor was given so much time to complete the project. We will also scrutinise the documents pertaining to allotment of the flats,” said a CBI official.
