Kumar was held in May 2017 by the sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman, who was named in an FIR of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. The policeman was caught from a residential area in Sarangpur.

The accused was taking the bribe for not taking any action against the woman, whose husband Shiv Nath had already been arrested in the case. The complainant and her husband were booked for assaulting their relative Guru Narayan on March 3. The FIR was registered at the Sarangpur police station and the investigation was being conducted by Kumar.

Following all this, Kumar had demanded Rs 18,000 from the complainant but later the deal was struck for Rs 10,000. When Kumar went to take the bribe amount, the CBI sleuths reached the spot and caught the cop and recovered the bribe money from him.

During the trial in court, the defence counsel argued that Kumar had been falsely implicated in the case and had no involvement in the matter.
