The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested four alleged poachers and seized multiple wildlife articles in a special operation conducted in the early hours of Monday in Pinjore, Haryana.
The Wildlife Crime Unit of the CBI, along with officials from the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), said it intercepted a vehicle and recovered two leopard skins, nine leopard canines, 25 leopard claws, three leopard jaw pieces, three otter skins, and pangolin scales from the three accused.
The arrested individuals — Peerdas, Wazira, and Ram Dayal — were caught at the scene, while another suspect, Rohtas, was later apprehended at Kalka railway station. A case has been registered under Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with sections 40, 49, 49B, and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
One of the accused had previously been chargesheeted by Nepal Police for wildlife crimes. The seized items fall under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, which strictly prohibits poaching and provides stringent punishments for offenders.
The accused will be presented before the competent court, while investigations continue to trace the source of the wildlife articles, uncover supply chains, and track the money trail.
