Candidates come out in strength to file papers

Huge shows of strength were put up by the candidates of the Congress,SAD and BJP while going to file nomination papers in Jalandhar and Amritsar.

Huge shows of strength were put up by the candidates of the Congress,SAD and BJP while going to file nomination papers in Jalandhar and Amritsar. Their long cavalcades of vehicles stalled traffic for hours.

In Jalandhar,former Congress minister Avtar Henry and the BJP’s sitting MLA K D Bhandhari filed their nomination papers from Jalandhar (North) Assembly constituency. Both the candidates filed the papers in the office of returning officer in Master Tara Singh Nagar.

As per the election code,not more than three vehicles can be taken within 100 metres of the RO office,but on Monday,the convoys of vehicles followed the candidates quite close to the RO’s office. These vehicles were halted at various places in the congested city as both came via Mai Hiran Gate,Bhagat Singh Chowk and Partap Bagh to Master Tara Singh Nagar.

Bikram Majithia,Youth Akali Dal (YAD) president and SAD candidate from Majitha constituency,filed his papers in Amritsar. He came in a huge cavalcade of vehicles from Majitha to Amritsar,stopping at various places on the way to greet his supporters.
