Campaign to check drunk driving: 65 challaned

In a special drive over the past five days,the Chandigarh traffic police have issued 65 challans against drunken drivers in the city.

In a special drive over the past five days,the Chandigarh traffic police have issued 65 challans against drunken drivers in the city. The drive started from April 29 and is likely to continue in the days ahead.

The police said that the challans to drunken drivers were issued as police teams had laid nakas at various places near pubs,clubs,bar and restaurants under the supervision of traffic inspectors and traffic marshals.

The police said that during the drive,challans for other traffic offences were also issued.

On the first day of the drive on April 29,the total challans issued was 116,out of which 12 were for drunken driving.

The next day 111 challans were issued and six were for drunken driving. The highest number of challans during the special drive was issued on April 1.

On that day 168 challans were issued out which 16 were for drunken driving. The police said that 347 offenders have been booked so far this year for drunken driving.
