BSF intercepts 25 Pak drones in 10 days, 225 downed this year
A statement issued by the Punjab Frontier HQs of BSF on X said that this milestone comes just 10 days after the interception of the 200th drone on November 9, 2024.

A record number of 25 drones from across the border with Pakistan have been intercepted and brought down by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Punjab in past 10 days.
With this, the total number of drones intercepted on the Indo-Pak border in Punjab by the Punjab Frontier HQs of BSF is 225 from January 2024 till date. The total number of drones intercepted and neutralized from January 2023 till date has now reached 354, including 129 drones neutralised in 2023.
A statement issued by the Punjab Frontier HQs of BSF on X said that this milestone comes just 10 days after the interception of the 200th drone on November 9, 2024. The achievement comes in the back drop of operational handicap of operating under poor visibility caused by thick fog.
On October 18, in a single day, BSF seized five drones, including four Chinese made DJI Mavic 3 Classic and one DJI AIR 3S drone. Two of these drones were carrying heroin consignments weighing 548 grams and 555 grams respectively. The recoveries were made in farming fields adjacent to Tarn Taran and Amritsar Border areas. “The analysis of technical data from seized drones has resulted in the development of new operational strategies and the implementation of enhanced security measures along the Punjab border. These advancements have enabled the precise and successful interception of 25 drones within just ten days,” the BSF statement says.
The BSF further added that this achievement sets a new benchmark in border surveillance and counter-drone operations, even under adverse weather conditions.
The drones, most of which are Chinese made, carry drugs, arms, ammunition and fake currency from Pakistan into India, are mostly brought down through technical interception in Abohar, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts, with maximum recoveries from Tarn Taran and Amritsar, BSF sources said.
Sources added that with better drone interdiction technology now available with the BSF, they are able to bring down a large number of the drones and seize the consignments that they carried. Punjab has a 553 km-long border with Pakistan, most of which is fenced. However, there are certain riverine stretches where the fence gets damaged during monsoons due to flooding of rivers and hence the BSF has to take extra precautions to ensure that there is no illegal activity undertaken by the smugglers by taking advantage of the situation.
According to senior BSF officers, operations in the border areas are also undertaken with the close cooperation of Punjab Police in the border areas. The Punjab Police has undertaken an extensive exercise to install CCTV cameras all along important points on the Indo-Pak border.
As per a statement issued by the Punjab DGP, Gaurav Yadav, recently the project worth Rs 20 crores has been already sanctioned. Tenders for the same were also floated by the Punjab Police a few months back
