State DSPs to get Scorpios

CHANDIGARH: Now Deputy Superintendents of Police holding charges of various sub-divisions in the State will travel in Scorpios as the Punjab DGP PS Gill today flagged off 50 Scorpio vehicles for DSPs here at the Punjab Police Headquarters. He said that these vehicles would be suitable for operational purposes both on highways and in rural areas,as the criminal elements in Punjab were now using high speed vehicles. Focusing on modernisation of the force,Gill said in the coming days more vehicles,anti-riot equipment,modern uniform articles for police personnel and communication equipment will be provided.

Kisan Morcha meet

CHANDIGARH: The national executive body of Kisan Morcha,Bhartiya Janta Party will hold its meeting on July 2 and July 3 at Haridwar. Two day-long brainstorming sessions will decide future courses of action on different issues. Meeting would hold detailed discussions on proposed introduction of land Acquisition Bill,Seed Bill,Pesticide Management Bill and Biotechnology Authority Bill in monsoon session.

AMRITSAR: The Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences of Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC),Mumbai has sanctioned a major nuclear research project of Rs 27 lakh to Surinder Singh,Department of Physics,Guru Nanak Dev University as the Principal Investigator and B S Bajwa as Co-investigator. The research is to be conducted on Radon/Thoron and progeny measurements in the dwellings of Himachal Pradesh and high heat producing Granitic regions of Tosham in the Bhiwani district of Haryana. Singh is the senior-most professor of physics and Bajwa is also a senior professor of physics.

2 booked for rape

AMRITSAR: THE local police today booked two persons—Sukhdev Singh and Gagan—for raping a married woman. Though the incident took place last week,the matter was

brought to the notice of the police today only as the victim was threatened if she made a complaint,police said. The family told the police after they were informed by the victim today.
