A brawl at a pre-wedding party left the bridegroom and his friend seriously injured,in Kharar late on Thursday night. While the groom,Saudagar Singh of Sector 68,Mohali,was referred to Chandigarh PGIMER with head injuries,his friend Vikas Kumar,of Manimajra,was admitted at Kharar Civil Hospital,Investigating Officer (IO) Joginder Singh told Newsline. It was Saudagars engagement party for which around 15 people had been invited at Royal Palace here. During the party,Vikas and a group of youths entered into a scuffle over some issue. As I was driving out of the palace with Saudagar in his car around 1.15 am,the assailants intercepted us in three different vehicles and attacked us with batons and rods, Vikas told the police. While Vikas and Saudagar were trapped in the assault, two other friends managed to escape unhurt. The car was also damaged,the IO said. The local police have booked Gurpreet Singh,Mona,Gaganjeet Singh alias Gagana,Baljinder Singh,Seema and eight unknown assailants for wrongful restraint,voluntarily causing hurt,criminal intimidation and rioting,under Sections 341,323,506,148 and 149 of the IPC. However,no arrests were made as yet,the IO added.
