BJP MP Kirron Kher files cheating complaint against Chandigarh bizman who claimed threat to his life from Kher

Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered police protection for the businessman and his family for a week.

Chandigarh’s Member of Parliament Kirron Kher has lodged a police complaint against local businessman and investment consultant Chaittnya Aggarwal, accusing him of forgery and cheating.

The BJP MP alleged that Aggarwal cheated her of Rs 6 crore out of the Rs 8 crore she entrusted to him for investment.

On Monday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Chandigarh police to provide protection to Aggarwal for a week, based on his petition that he and his family are facing threats from Kher and her political aide Sahdev Salaria.

MP Kirron Kher submitted her complaint through the public window at Sector 9 police headquarters, and it was subsequently forwarded to the SHO of Sector 26 police station, Inspector Devinder Singh, by the office of SSP (UT) Kanwardeep Kaur. The investigation has commenced at Sector 26 police station, officials said.

A staff member of MP Kirron Kher in Chandigarh confirmed the development and stated, “MP Ma’am has filed a police complaint with Chandigarh police regarding the cheating incident in Sector 7.”

Sources said that Aggarwal was not present at his residence in NAC, Mani Majra, Sector 13, when the police went to serve him a summons for joining the investigation. “While certain evidence related to the Rs 8-crore investment and the non-repayment of Rs 6 crore was attached to the complaint, additional documents are yet to be collected from the complainant side,” they said.

‘Statements from both parties need to recorded’

A police officer privy to the matter said, “MP Kirron Kher had handed over the money to Chaittnya Aggarwal in Sector 7, falling under the jurisdiction of Sector 26 police station. That is why the police complaint was directed to Sector 26 police station for investigation. Statements from both parties need to be recorded, and despite Aggarwal’s absence, the investigation has commenced.”

Aggarwal, through senior advocate Anmol Rattan Siddhu, had submitted in court that he, his wife and their two minor daughters were facing threat to life and liberty from Kher and Salaria.

According to his petition filed in the High Court, Aggarwal came in contact with Salaria through a BJP worker. Salaria introduced himself as a financier who handled money for influential people, including Kher, he submitted. Later, Aggarwal alleged, the MP gave him Rs 8 crore for investment and the amount was to be transferred back after profits.

In his petition Aggarwal said he returned Kher Rs 2 crore in August and sought more time to return the remaining amount due to fluctuations in the market in November, but the MP and her aide allegedly started threatening him.

Aggarwal alleged that he was being constantly harassed by Kher and Salaria “who have made it abundantly clear” that his life is at risk.

Public prosecutor Manish Bansal submitted that Aggarwal and his family did not file any police complaint in Chandigarh nor did they call Helpline No. 112 for police help.

Hours later, local businessman and investment consultant Chaittnya Aggarwal, filed an application before the district court seeking blanket anticipatory bail. The matter is expected to come up for hearing on Thursday.

Aggarwal, in his application filed through his counsel Pardhuman Garg, sought directions to Chandigarh Police to give him a seven-day prior notice in case he is required to be arrested in any FIR registered by the Chandigarh police in any police station of the city.
