BJP chief to Chandigarh DC: People’s love for PM Modi beyond party control

BJP chief was responding to the show cause notice sent to him regarding "Modi ka parivar" posters/plates displayed outside several houses in Maloya.

In a communique sent to the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer on Tuesday, BJP chief Jatinder Malhotra said that the “party cannot restrict the appreciation shown by the country’s populace towards its Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

He was responding to the show cause notice sent to him regarding “Modi ka parivar” posters/plates displayed outside several houses in Maloya.

In his reply, the BJP chief said, “It is submitted that the same is a voluntary act of the resident/owner/occupier of the house(s) and, as per the information received, occurred prior to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. Therefore, it is not violative of any of its rules. We understand that no permission is required for any voluntary or independent act of an individual/resident/owner/occupier concerning his own private house/property.”

He further remarked, “Rather, forcibly removing them from their premises, without their permission, may be objectionable. Please be informed that this is entirely an individual act of a resident/owner/occupier of the
house(s) carried out of his own free will, and there is no involvement or interference from the party.” He added, “It is submitted that the party cannot restrict the appreciation shown by the country’s populace towards its Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Earlier, on Monday, the Chandigarh BJP President had received a show cause notice from the Returning Officer, Vinay Pratap Singh, for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct. The notice was regarding the installation of name plates bearing the title “Modi Ka Parivar” in certain residences of Maloya village.

The city BJP President had been directed to either provide evidence of permission from the residents, owners, or occupants of these private houses by 3 pm on March 19, or to remove the name plates in question. He had been warned that failure to comply with this directive would result in appropriate action being taken for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
