Bhattal: Well hike shagun from Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000

Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has gone on record saying if her party comes to power,the amount of the Shagun Scheme for the Scheduled Caste and Backward Caste families in Punjab will be enhanced from existing Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000.

Although the Congress is yet to release its manifesto,Rajinder Kaur Bhattal,the Leader of Opposition in the outgoing Assembly,has gone on record saying if her party comes to power,the amount of the Shagun Scheme for the Scheduled Caste and Backward Caste families in Punjab will be enhanced from existing Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000.

Bhattal,who was in Sahnewal on Thursday to campaign for her son-in-law Vikram Bajwa,addressed three public meetings and spoke on this issue Shagun is given to an eligible family at the time of the daughters wedding. Bajwa is fighting elections for the first time against SAD candidate Sharanjit Singh Dhillon. Congress rebel Inderjit Kasabad also filed papers on Friday after being denied ticket.

Bajwa was seen echoing his mother-in-law at public meetings. The present government has not been able to give Shagun cheques in nearly 70,000 pending cases which shows the kind of seriousness they have. But our government will be helping the poor families with more than double the amount, he said.

Bhattal also spoke about the FIRs registered against the Congress workers. Once we form government,all the false cases will be probed,and we will get the FIRs cancelled, she said.

Bajwa supported her,saying in Sahnewal alone hundreds of such fake cases had been registered in various police stations. In the name of development,there had been only laying of foundation stones by the SAD-BJP government,but we will make actual development once we are voted to power, he added.

On the rebels,he said six aspirants sought party ticket from this area. While five of them had already supported him,he would request Kasabad as well to lend him support.
