A woman alleged that she was beaten up by police while she tried to protect her brother who was arrested by police yesterday from their residence on gambling charges. While the police have claimed they did not see any at the place when they raided it.
Meanwhile,the woman was admitted by her family members in the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar. There,she told them that she was beaten up by officers of Bhargo Camp police station.
The police had reportedly arrested one Shalu (22) along with a dozen more boys while they were gambling at Shalus place in Bhargo camp area on Friday and recovered over Rs 13,000 from the spot.
Seema Rani,the sister of Shalu,claimed that her brother was innocent,and when she tried to tell the same to the poice,they beat her up.
When contacted,Sudesh Rani,the mother of Seema,said she was not aware what happened to her daughter as she was not at home. Seema was in the ICU at the time of filing of this report and her statement had not been recorded by the police.
SHO Bhargo Camp Som Nath said that on the complaint of people of locality where Shalu lives,the police conducted a raid at Shalus place and found him indulging in gambling.
They arrested him and took him to the police station. He said the police had no connection with his sister,who has been making baseless allegations against them to protect her brother.
