A local court on Monday remanded Basant,the dismissed police constable accused of murdering Inspector Sucha Singh,and his girlfriend Sarita to judicial custody. Basant was remanded to judicial custody as the Chandigarh Police did not press for further police remand. The four days police remand of Basant and Sarita ended on Monday. Basant is also accused of murdering the husband and mother-in-law of his paramour,Sarita. Basant and Sarita had reached Chandigarh on June 8 and after Inspector Sucha Singh confronted Basant,he stabbed Singh to death and injured Singhs driver Jitender. It was Basants friend Ombir,a constable with Delhi Police,who had helped the Haryana Police in Basants arrest. Another FIR was registered against Basant for fraudulently getting an SLR issued while he was under suspension. Since the SLR stands recovered,the Chandigarh Police did not seek his police remand in the other FIR too.
