A Chandigarh clothing store has made its women and kids’ sections Barbie-themed in line with the global trend after the release of Mattel’s mega-production movie Barbie. Besides hot pink sequins, t-shirts, blazers and formals, the entire lighting at Meena Bazaar has also been modified with Barbie shades.

Rajnish Jain, owner of Meena Bazaar at NAC Manimajra, told The Indian Express, “We say there is a princess Barbie in every girl.. and that is why, especially for women and kids, we have tried to make everything Barbie-themed. All our clothing and attires on sale are pink in colour and other Barbie shades. The lighting, too, has been done with a blend of the same colours.”

The ethnic collections at the store are also just pink. Even the men’s section is being coordinated with a bit of pink to match the Barbie fever here.

“There are lehengas, all in Barbie-inspired colours, which have been coordinated with different blouses on net base and embellished with beads, sequins and other colours in the Barbie movie. Also, we have all sorts of modern attires in different shades of pink – be it fuschia pink, rosewood pink, peach pink and various others,” he added.

“It is internationally in vogue. I know Zara and H&M have done Barbie-inspired colour coordination abroad. But nowhere in India have I seen it. So we thought, let us be the first ones to do it. All our fashion moves around Hollywood. Met Gala and other platforms. so we put it all together to have this colour coordination,” Jain said. He added that it took around two months to coordinate all designs and colours.

Based on the famed Mattel doll, Barbie hit theatres on July 21. The fantasy-comedy is directed by Greta Gerwig and written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach.
