Bains revealed that a guard of honour will be extended to the nagar kirtan in all districts (X/@harjotbains)Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains held review meetings with district administrations of Faridkot, Ferozepur, Moga, Ludhiana, and Fatehgarh Sahib to ensure seamless arrangements for the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. He also asked officials to expedite preparations for the nagar kirtan, set to commence from Faridkot in the Malwa region.
Addressing the media after the meeting, alongside PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh, Cultural and Tourism Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, and Advisor to Cultural and Tourism, Deepak Bali, Bains announced that two nagar kirtans will mark the occasion. One such kirtan will start from Faridkot, covering Ferozepur, Moga, Ludhiana, and Fatehgarh Sahib, while the other will begin from Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, traversing key districts. Both processions will converge at Sri Anandpur Sahib on the evening of November 22.
Bains revealed that a guard of honour will be extended to the nagar kirtan in all districts. Additionally, light and sound shows will be organised across all 23 districts from November 1 to 18, showcasing the life of the ninth Guru and his devoted disciples Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, and Bhai Dayala Ji. Kirtan darbars will be held at 130 ‘Charan Chhoeh’ holy sites associated with Guru Tegh Bahadur.
Highlighting the state government’s commitment, the minister said the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, will observe the 350th Martyrdom Day on a grand scale, honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur’s supreme sacrifice as the ‘Hind Di Chadar’. “We are meticulously reviewing arrangements, including development projects, roadworks, and logistics, in coordination with Deputy Commissioners, local MLAs, and religious leaders to ensure flawless execution,” he stated.
The main religious functions will take place in Sri Anandpur Sahib from November 23 to 25, expecting over one crore devotees from across the globe. A tent city, ‘Chakk Nanki’, will accommodate over 11,000 devotees daily from November 19 to 30.
Urging public participation, Bains said the commemoration will inspire people to uphold secularism, compassion, and humanism, reflecting Guru Tegh Bahadur’s timeless message of standing firm in faith while respecting all beliefs.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet ministers directed the Moga district administration to upgrade the service lane of the National Highway and ensure proper functioning of traffic lights by October 31.
