Auctions of fancy numbers to be held in presence of officials

The auctions of fancy numbers will now be held in the presence of a committee of officials,after an apprehension of cartelisation was raised at the recent auction of special numbers.

Earlier,auctions of numbers of various series held by the Registering and Licensing Authority have been cancelled as there was not requisite revenue collection. During the auction for numbers of the series CH 01 AU,a similar apprehension had led to cancellation of auction for 7 numbers. The numbers were then auctioned for a little more than the reserve price. Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh,Mohammed Shayin,said the auction for the numbers was cancelled after some anomalies were noticed. He said auctions in the future would be under the supervision of a committee of officials. Meanwhile,an applicant,whose number is among those that were cancelled,has moved a representation with the Deputy Commissioner.

The representation states there were only 2 bidders for the auction of the number CH 01 AU 0018. However,since the other applicant did not attend the auction the number was taken by Neelam Chawla. The applicant has stated the whole auction should be cancelled instead of just a few numbers and another auction should be held instead.
