To save children from being victims of cyber crimes, the Auckland House School organised a workshop here on Tuesday, focusing on safe surfing techniques, especially on social network sites, and internet downloads.

Rakshit Tandon,a noted expert in cyber crime detection and consultant,Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI),was the key resource person at the workshop attended by the students of Class VI to XII and teachers.

“Internet hackers are always at work, and you could land in trouble any moment if proper security precautions are not taken. Not only internet users, but also those using mobile phones are vulnerable to the tricks played by cyber criminals,” he cautioned the students.

Tandon, who has till now covered 143 cities in 13 states to reach out to more than 3.36 students with his message of safe surfing, demonstrated how innocent internet users could become soft targets of hackers. All photographs, personal profiles, passwords and other details could be easily accessed by criminals,he said. “Never set an easy and simple password for your email IDs. Passwords should be complicated and fairly diffident as a matter of security. There should be separate IDs and passwords for different email accounts. All instructions should be read carefully before logging in,in acceptance of the terms,” Tandon cautioned.

Principal Sunita John said she hoped the workshop was of big help to both students and teachers,as the young and new internet users needed to be extra cautious towards the misuse of the Internet.
