Atanu wins,city lad Gusain finishes second

With consistent performance throughout the tournament,it didn’t come as a surprise when Atanu Lahiri of LIC (WB) emerged as the champion after securing 8.5 points by comfortably drawing his final round game with Puneet Jaiswal of WB at the end of the 1st Chandigarh All India Open Fide Rating Chess Tournament that concluded at St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School,Sector 44,on Wednesday.

Atanu,the International Master,had maintained lead throughout the tournament and stamped his class over other players. Meanwhile,Himal Gusain of Chandigarh impressed everyone with a convincing victory over his opponent Linda Rangarajan of Pondicherry to take the second position with eight points.

Another Chandigarh player,eight-year-old WCM Tarini Goyal,one of the youngest participants,became the best women performer during the tournament. She scored a respectable six points.
