The UT Police rounded up six people on Monday night suspecting their involvement in the assault on two security officials at the fuel station in Sector 56 in the morning. But they were soon let off as their involvement was not established. Now the police will take assistance of the cyber crime cell.
The six were involved in a brawl which had happened at the same fuel station on February 22. The six persons who were involved in the brawl which took place two months back were rounded up last night for interrogation,but in vain. Mobile numbers of all these six persons have been put on surveillance and their locations at the time of incident is being found out, said a police official.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) Surjit Singh Malik said,There were no CCTV cameras at the petrol pump. It has become difficult for us to find out who the accused were. We are now collecting the data of mobile towers of all the service providers near the Sector 56 fuel station.
However,the two security officials who fought the miscreants for nearly two hours before the police came are still under treatment. Surinder Pal Rana,56,is admitted to GMSH-16 while Chander Shekhar Misra,53,is admitted to PGIMER. Both have suffered severe facial injuries and Chander Shekhar will be operated upon.
Shiv Kumar,Misras nephew,told Chandigarh Newsline,He (Chander Shekhar) gained consciousness at 4 am today and was crying with pain. He is not in a condition to speak.
After my uncle was beaten up brutally,they (the miscreants) tied my uncles arms and legs and threw him in the bushes, said Kumar. My uncle does not have any enemies. Residents of Sector 56 had a fight with some of the employees of the petrol pump about a month ago. Police had not arrested anyone yet.
Ranas wife Vijay Rani said,Authorities have been visiting us since yesterday and saying they will help in every possible way. I just want the accused to be arrested.
DSP Malik said that when the brawl was reported on February 22,the CITCO authorities were asked to install CCTV cameras,but nothing had been done.
However,CITCO general manager A K Malhotra said,We are in the process of installing the CCTV Cameras. A tender has been floated to install the cameras.
We will write to the police department to increase vigil in Sector 56 and the surrounding sectors. We will also be deputing security personnel with weapons so that no such incident is repeated in future, he added.
