Around Town: Flood control rooms set up

As part of flood control measures ahead of the rainy season,the district administrations of Gurdaspur and Pathankot in Punjab have set up flood control rooms at several places.

Gurdaspur: As part of flood control measures ahead of the rainy season,the district administrations of Gurdaspur and Pathankot in Punjab have set up flood control rooms at several places. The control rooms have set up at sub-divisional level including at Dhar,Pathankot,Gurdaspur,Dera Baba Nanak and Batala which will start functioning from Sunday,officials said. These control rooms have been provided with cellphones,wireless sets and telephones and would provide information about water levels of Ravi and Beas rivers and their tributaries. The control rooms would remain in force from July 1 till September 30.

Iran delegation visits Markfed

Chandigarh: An Iranian delegation,led by the Ambassador Seyad Mahdi Nabizadesh visited head office of Punjab Markfed,at Chandigarh on Saturday to look for trade opportunities between Iran and Punjab. Stressing upon the opening of land route of Wagah,Nabizadesh lauded the role performed by Markfed for the farming community. Markfed officials expressed hope of developing meaningful business ties with Iran. The Ambassador also assured healthy trade ties between Iran and Punjab in agricultural products.

July is anti-dengue month in Punjab

Chandigarh: The Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister,Madan Mohan Mittal,on saturday said July will be observed as anti-dengue month across the state and asked health officials to step up awareness among people to protect themselves from the disease. Mittal said that the number of malaria cases till May in state has been less than that during the corresponding period last year. Besides,only nine cases of dengue has been reported till June against 51 in the same period last year. No case of any other vector borne disease has been reported,he said.
