AMBALA: A five-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from her home while she was sleeping with her mother at Badholi village under PS Shehazadpur on Thursday night and later raped and dumped in a village street. Ambala rural DCP Nazneen Bhasin said the police registered a case on the complaint of Om Prakash,father of the victim,and arrested one Mohinder Singh,a resident of Mankya village,on Friday. Earlier,the victim was brought to the civil hospital,Ambala City,where doctors confirmed that she was raped.
Encroachment
drives carried out
CHANDIGARH: An anti-encroachment drive was carried out by the enforcement wing of the Municipal Corporation in Shastri Market and the adjoining areas of Sector 22 on Friday. As many as 37 encroachers were challaned and a number of items were seized. A similar drive was carried out in Sadar and Palika Bazaar,Sector 19,where around 100 violators were challaned.

PATIALA: A meeting of deans of various faculties and heads of all the departments of Punjabi University,held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh,on Friday took stock of their activities and achievements since inception of the university. The V-C urged the deans and heads to finetune the presentations facilitating their publication in the form of a book.
Trial begins in
hit-and-run case
CHANDIGARH: The trial in the hit-and-run case in which V N Singh,former nodal officer of Le Courbusier Centre,Sector 19,was injured and later died at the hospital,began in the the court of Civil Judge K K Goyal. Singh was injured in an accident on November 28,2010,while he was returning from Chandigarh Carnival. He succumbed to injuries on December 9. Baljot Singh Gill was accused of causing the accident and had absconded after leaving the injured at GMSH,Sector 16.

CHANDIGARH: The Management Development Centre of Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration Punjab (MGSIPAP) organised a training programme on problem-solving and decision-making for senior-level officers of the Punjab government which concluded here on Friday.
