“At night, residents, especially children and senior citizens, are afraid to move out of their homes due to this problem. It is also common to hear residents getting bitten by pet dogs. Now that the general house of the MC has been formed, we will bring this issue up on a priority basis and discuss solutions to the problem,” said councillor Manjit Sethi.

Amandeep Singh, a resident of Phase 9, said, “Recently, a woman in our locality was chased by stray dogs and bitten on her leg. Such incidents are becoming common in Mohali, and the authorities should do something immediately to check the dog population.”

A few days ago, some children from Sector 125 wrote to the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the problem, and their representations were made part of the Punjab Interest Litigation (PIL) already pending in the court.

The process of sterilisation of dogs is usually outsourced to private veterinarians every year, but it is yet to be done this year and therefore, no sterilisation drives are being carried out. According to MC officials, the process will so on start in town and more than ten sterilisations would be done each day.
