Five years after he was murdered by his wife,Darshan Singh,a resident of Mansa,is reportedly alive. Roshni Kaur, mother of two,has spent more than three years behind bars, after a lower court found her guilty of killing Darshan. Now,Advocate Bhanu Pratap has submitted before the court that he has information that Darshan is alive. He referred to four letters written by one Raju,a labourer and resident of Palampur,to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP),Mansa, and other authorities. In his letter,Raju claimed that Darshan Singh had worked with him for eleven months at a tea estate. He had borrowed Rs 5,000 from Raju which he never returned and ran away. Raju did not know that Darshans wife had been awarded life imprisonment for his murder. Raju even visited Darshans village and met the lambardar. Significantly, the lambardar has also testified in writing that Raju has reported about Darshan to him. A division bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court comprising Justice Mehtab Singh Gill and Justice Arvind Kumar took strong note of the development on Tuesday and directed police authorities to immediately look into the matter. The Bench also awarded bail to Roshni Kaur and suspended her sentence till the pendency of her appeal. In a case registered against Roshni on November 25,2005,it was alleged that on November 14,2005,she along with Gurtej Singh and Teji, killed Darshan with an axe in the presence of their son Jinder Singh. Later, they threw his body in a canal. His body was, however, never recovered. Roshni allegedly had extra-marital affairs with Gurtej and Teji. Jinder, who was four years old at the time of the incident, had deposed before the trial court judge. He was seven when he deposed against his mother testifying that Roshni and the other two had killed his father. The case was registered by Roshnis brother-in-law to grab Darshans land. The trial court relied on the statement of the child who was tutored by his uncle, Bhanu Pratap told The Indian Express. It might be recalled that earlier 21-year-old Jagseer had resurfaced 13 years after his alleged murder. The high court had awarded a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the kin of the five convicted for his murder who had been imprisoned for five years before Jagseer was found alive.
