Amritsar police were left red-faced on Friday after two videos with six of its officers singing and dancing with an alleged gangster, who was out on bail, surfaced on social media on Friday.
As per details, the ‘gangster’ spotted in the video is Kamal Bori, who has been accused in several cases, including those under the NDPS Act. The video — which sources said is a few days old — prompted a knee-jerk reaction from the Punjab police top brass, with all officers caught on the video being relived of their current posts and transferred to police lines.
In the purpoted video, two DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) rank officers, Sanjeev Kumar and Pravesh Chopra, can be seen. Both of them are stationed in Amritsar rural. Additionally, the video also features four SHO (Station House Officer) rank officers — Dharmendra Kalyan, Gurvinder Singh, Neeraj Kumar, and Gagandeep Singh.
In the video, DSP Sanjeev Kumar is shown singing a song, with Pravesh Chopra is standing next to him, even as Kamal Bori is spotted passing by them. In the second video, SHO Gurvinder Singh can be seen singing a song while Kamal Bori in spotted standing in front of him and applauding the performance.
The then Inspector General of Police, Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, who is the current AAP MLA from Amritsar North, had filed several cases against Bori while he was with the Punjab Police. This had consequently led to Bori’s arrest. The accused had spent several months in jail before managing to obtain bail in all cases. The Amritsar police, so far, has refused to comment publicly on the twin videos.
