Responding to a question on the suspension of mobile internet services in the state and how long it might continue, Punjab Inspector General (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill, during a press conference in Chandigarh Monday, said, “[The mobile] internet has been suspended to maintain public order. This call can be taken on time-to-time basis by examining [the situation]. So far it is suspended, further as per situation, the call will be taken. See this is done in anticipation to maintain public order. Many steps are required in this regard and this is one part.”

The stringent National Security Act (NSA) has been invoked against five of Amritpal’s arrested aides, including his uncle, who was held early on Monday. The five were sent to Assam and lodged in a jail in Dibrugarh.
