Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday described state Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singhs statement that he had not tried to stop Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from inaugurating the prestigious Viraasat-e-Khalsa (Khalsa Heritage Memorial Complex) at Sri Anandpur Sahib,as the biggest lie of the century. The role played by Amarinder in this unholy drama is not just an act of political opportunism,it is a sacrilege and one more traitorous act against the Khalsa Panth, said Sukhbir/ Ridiculing Amarinders denial of playing any role in the cancellation of the PMs visit, the deputy chief minster said: Amarinder and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal first led a group of the Congress leaders from Punjab to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to convince them that Singhs pilgrimage to Anandpur Sahib will damage the partys prospects in the Assembly elections. Both of them later told the media that they had succeeded in sabotaging the PMs proposed visit. Describing Amarinders reasoning that the Heritage Complex had already been inaugurated in 2006 as fabulous,Sukhbir asked: Would Amarinder and Bhattal explain to the Sikh masses how could the prestigious project have been inaugurated more than five years before its completion? He said that he was worried about the mental health of the former chief minister, who first congratulated himself on stopping the PM from inaugurating the Heritage Complex, and then went into a denial mode over the issue. The fact is that Amarinder has now realised that there is strong anger and revulsion in the minds of the Sikh masses against him and his party for depriving the community of having its historic heritage memorial inaugurated by the PM,who also happens to be a Sikh. This is why he is now resorting to yet another bout of falsehoods to try and wash his hands off the responsibility for this unholy act, said Sukhbir.
