The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) on Monday launched a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his comments on the Congress party’s Lok Sabha election manifesto.

Addressing an election rally in Rajasthan’s Banswara on Sunday, PM Modi said if voted to power, the Congress could distribute the nation’s wealth among “infiltrators” and “those who have more children”.

Sharing a clip of PM Modi’s speech, SAD (B) spokesperson Parambans Singh Romana posted on X, “Venom and hate at another level. Btw India is supposed to be a “Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic Republic.” The fault with all of us is that we think of injustice only when it happens against us. If it is them today it will be us tomorrow. Shameful and very disturbing!”.

Meanwhile, former minister and SAD(B) leader Bikram Singh Majithia also issued a statement on the issue.

“Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji has taught us to treat all human beings as equal and seeking good for everyone with saying ‘Sarbat Da Bhala. What PM Modi had done yesterday has undermined our Constitution framed by Dr. BR Ambedkar for the country which treats all citizens as equals @Akali_Dal_ has always stood for minorities, Punjab and Punjabiat. PM Sh. Narendra Modi Ji IS this ‘Sab ka Saath Sab ka Vikas’,” said Majithia in a post on X.

“Very ashamed by your statement as you are PM of India and India is secular nation. I strongly condemn this conduct of PM Modi done solemnly with the purpose of polarisation of votes which also indicates they are losing election,” he added.

It is the first such bitter reaction from the SAD(B) to PM Modi’s statement. Before this, the SAD(B) had accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its former alliance partner, of not meeting demands like the release of Sikh prisoners and MSP on all crops for farmers.

Last week, Bikram Singh Majithia openly asked voters to not allow BJP candidates to enter the villages in Punjab. “The BJP stopped farmers from moving towards Delhi for their protest. Just like they have stopped farmers from going to Delhi, BJP candidates should also be stopped from entering the villages of Punjab. They should be confronted with questions,” said Bikram Singh Majithia.

He also attacked Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

“Bhagwant Mann is a tout of the BJP and he didn’t register FIR in the case of the murder of young farmer Shubkaran Singh in Punjab during farmer protests. Now when farmers want to protest against BJP Amritsar candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu, SSP Amritsar himself came to stop the farmers in villages. Is this a democracy? Can’t farmers table their concerns? I am surprised by the way BJP candidates have been provided with police protection. It is a shame to democracy and also shows how Bhagwant Mann is working for BJP,” he added.
