Agniveer among three held for car snatching

Police recovered a snatched Maruti Swift Dzire, a stolen Enfield bike, and a scooty from the accused.

The district police on Wednesday arrested three individuals, including an Agniveer, for snatching a car at gunpoint. A .315 bore pistol with a live cartridge was also recovered.

The arrested individuals were identified as Ishmeet Singh alias Ishu, Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh, and Balkaran Singh, all residents of Fazilka.

Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Sandeep Garg stated that Ishmeet Singh, recruited as an Agniveer in 2022, was posted in West Bengal. He came on a one-month leave but did not return to duty.

“Ishmeet did not return to duty and started living in Balongi on rent with his brother Prabhpreet Singh and friend Balkaran Singh, engaging in thefts and snatchings,” SSP Garg said.

SSP Garg further revealed that Ishmeet told the police he bought the weapons in Kanpur, UP, and began snatching cars in Balongi, Mohali.

Police recovered a snatched Maruti Swift Dzire, a stolen Enfield bike, and a scooty from the accused.

SSP Garg added that during the investigation, it was found that on the night of July 20-21, the accused snatched the cab in Chapparchiri village by using pepper spray on the driver.

A case has been registered against them.
