Riding high on superb bowling performances from left-arm spinner Bipul Sharma and VRV Singh (three wickets each),AG Haryana recorded a narrow five-run win over arch rivals AG Punjab in the final of Audit General Inter-Departmental Cricket Tournament as they clinched the championship title played at the Sector 16 Stadium in Chandigarh on Saturday. After winning the toss,AG Haryana elected to bat first. Riding high on Michael Vishal’s superb knock of 68 runs off 66 balls,AG Haryana posted a total of 217 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 40 overs. He was ably supported by Bipul Sharma (40) in the middle-order. For AG Punjab Sumit,Navdeep Singh and Arun Tuli claimed two wickets apiece. In reply AG Punjab was bowled out for 212 runs. For AG Punjab,Amit Prashar scored 46 runs,while Loomba and Sethi chipped in with 37 runs each. For AG Haryana Bipul Sharma and VRV Singh claimed three wickets apiece. Off-spinner Gaurav Gambhir was declared man of the tournament,while Michael Vishal and VRV Singh bagged best batsman and best bowler awards respectively. Jitender was adjudged best wicket-keeper and Gulab best fielder of the tournament.
