After wowing Sangrur, AAP’s Mann takes Modi gig to Varanasi

He said “we are spending our own money to buy food. After all, Kejriwal’s prestige is at stake.”

AFTER a comical treat for the voters of Sangrur, it is now the turn of Sikh voters in Varanasi for a Punjabi comedy tadka on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, with AAP leader Bhagwant Mann cracking jokes on Modi, who is contesting Lok Sabha elections from there.

Mann, with actor-singer Jassi Jasraj and Supreme Court lawyer H S Phoolka, landed in Varanasi on Monday to campaign for AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who is contesting against Modi.

While Mann, a popular comedian, has contested the Lok Sabha from Sangrur, Jasraj is the AAP candidate from Bathinda and Phoolka is the nominee from Ludhiana. All three will now camp in Varanasi till the elections are over. With them are 40 other AAP leaders from Punjab, who want to ensure Sikh votes for Kejriwal. All are spending from their pockets to pay for their expenses in Varanasi.

“We are meeting Sikh voters, who are around 25,000 in number in this constituency. Bhagwant Mann has already come prepared with a parody on Modi. He is going to be a crowd puller here too,” said Prof Manjeet Singh, spokesperson of AAP’s Punjab campaign committee.

He added AAP leaders from across the country were camping in Varanasi for garnering voters for Kejriwal. “We are taking this election very seriously. We have studied the constituency minutely and have worked out a strategy to pull votes by best possible means. After all, he is taking on Modi. We cannot take it lightly,” said Prof Manjit.

Claiming that the AAP leaders were not staying at fancy places but were putting up with party workers in the congested city, he said: “We are spending our own money to buy food. After all, Kejriwal’s prestige is at stake.”

Earlier, Jassi Jasraj had campaigned in Himachal Pradesh and Mann in Amethi. “While all our constituencies are important for us, but we are leaving no stone unturned for our party president,” said Prof Manjit.
