The tug-of-war between ruling alliance and opposition Congress over inauguration of the Khalsa Heritage Centre in Anandpur Sahib refuses to end even after Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh expressing his inability to visit Punjab to inaugurate the memorial. Not willing to be outdone,the Punjab government today announced to dedicate the Sikh monument to the nation with great fanfare.
A high-level meeting presided over by Punjab Finance Minister and chairperson of Sri Anandpur Sahib Foundation,Dr Upinderjit Kaur,with top civil and police officials at Punjab Bhawan today,Kaur gave in-principal approval to invite legendry singers Lata Mangeshker or Asha Bhonsle,who could be available on these dates,for the event. It was also suggested to invite other eminent folk and Punjabi singers such as Jaspinder Narula and Sukhwinder Bitti along with their troupes for joint performance on the occasion.
Kaur said the inauguration would be a historic occasion to showcase the rich legacy of Sikh ideology and religion,which would be remembered by the future generations in the annals of the history of Punjab. The memorial would be dedicated to the nation by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in a grand manner,she said.
The meeting also approved constitution of 14 committees – organizing committee,event management committee and reception,transport,boarding and lodging,press & publicity,site,securities and sanitation – for smooth and hassle free commemoration of this great event. The meeting also approved the design and matter of invitation cards and other related material.
