Abohar farmers lift dharna after govt assures water supply

re-modelling of the Malukpura minor canal,which will increase the capacity of the canal and all villages will get uniform water supply.”

He assured that all distributaries will be repaired by January 26 to prevent loss of water and ensure influential people do not divert water towards their fields.

“We are taking action against such persons and FIRs have been registered against them,” Yadav said.

Early in the morning,when Abohar SDM Amit Dhaka and Superintending Engineer,Canal department,H S Bhogal went to meet the farmers,they refused to listen to them and allegedly misbehaved.

In the evening,heavy police security was arranged before the DC’s visit to avoid any untoward incident.

Irrigation Minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon also spoke to farmers over the phone and asked them to lift the dharna.

Officials also agreed to check water theft in many villages due to which water supply does not reach the tail end.
