In the civic body elections that took place for Haryana's 46 municipal bodies in June 2022, the Aam Aadmi Party had won the post of chairperson for just one municipal committee in Kaithal's Ismailabad town. Less than a year later, the chairperson of the Ismailabad municipal committee Nisha Garg Friday joined the Jannayak Janata Party of deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala. Dushyant inducted Nisha and her husband Punit in the party at his official residence in Chandigarh. AAP has not responded to the development as of now. With the Congress staying away, the Aam Aadmi Party had tried to make a big push in its first-ever civic polls in 2022, hoping to ride the euphoria of the big victory in neighbouring Punjab's Assembly polls. Then the AAP won Ismailabad municipal committee, and lost Gharaunda, Pehowa and Kundli by a margin of less than 100 votes. The candidates fielded by the BJP and ally Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) won chairmanship of 25 of the 46 civic bodies. Of these, the BJP alone won 22. The Congress, which saw opposition from within its own ranks for not fielding candidates on party symbol, had claimed that 19 independents—who became civic body heads-were supported by it. The INLD led by Om Prakash Chautala won at one place. Polls were held for posts of chairpersons of 28 municipal committees and 18 municipal councils.
