The Municipal Corporation is yet to announce the members of various sub-committees despite a month having passed since the constitution of the new House. During a meeting of the General House held recently a number of decisions were referred to the sub-committees,but since these bodies are yet to be constituted, the decisions cannot be taken.
The civic body constitutes sub-committees every year to look into different functions concerning the Municipal Corporation. These include sub-committees for sanitation, water supply, beautification, among others. Each committee has nine members, including the chairman and vice-chairman and issues that require a detailed discussion are sent to the specific sub-committee from where the recommendations are sent to the General House if required.
The Municipal Corporation is required to finalise the terms and conditions for tenders on outsourcing areas for sanitation purposes. After a heated discussion in the General House,it was decided that the issue be referred to the sanitation committee where the modalities would be worked out and the changes suggested. With the sub-committee not having been announced, the issue is getting delayed.
Opposition councillors have meanwhile complain that they have not been consulted for finalising the names. This led to a ruckus in the previous House Meet with the Opposition stating that the Mayor had no authority to finalise names for the sub-committees.
A resolution was, however, moved to authorise the Mayor for the same. The nominated councillors, while moving the resolution had urged that the Opposition councillors be consulted before the sub-committees are finalised. The councillors, however, claim that they have not been consulted even once even though speculation is rife that the sub-committees will be announced in the coming week.
