The combined data shows that nearly 2,300 challans were issued daily in Chandigarh during this period. This works out to on average 96 challans every hour, maximum through CCTV cameras and others issued on the spot by the police
SSP (Traffic) Sumer Pratap Singh said that wherever there is a visible violation, a challan is issued to the violator through CCTV or manually, while traffic personnels maintain physical checks, enforcement at full strength.
The violations of red light jump, zebra crossing, and speeding, are captured by the CCTV cameras, whereas if there is any other violation which would be visible, the traffic police official issues the challan on spot, through a legal procedure.
On the decline in the number of on the spot or manual challans, the SSP said that the Chandigarh Traffic Police is approaching towards making a better coordination with the general public, and the policemen on roads are being taught to have a better behavioural approach and aware the public more on road about traffic rules.
