As many as 81 phone calls were allegedly exchanged between five accused,including Justice (retd) Nirmal Yadav,her close friend Ravinder Singh and lawyer Sanjiv Bansal,in the Cash-at-Judges-door scam,in less than 17 hours on August 13 and 14,2008 (see box). This was disclosed by special CBI public prosecutor Anupam Gupta on Wednesday during the resumed hearing of the trial. The calls between the five accused reportedly continued till the packet of Rs 15 lakh was delivered at the official residence of Yadav on the morning of August 14,2008. The scam came to light on August 13,2008,when Rs 15 lakh was wrongly delivered at the residence of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur. In addition to the phone calls exchanged on August 13 and 14,the CBI has also produced details of calls exchanged between Yadav,Ravinder Singh,Bansal,Bansals business partner and Bansals munshi,over six-and-a-half month. The call period is February 1,2008 to August 16,2008. Hundreds of phone calls exchanged between Justice Yadav and Ravinder Singh,the CBI prosecutor submitted,clearly demonstrated that Singh was an inseparable part of Yadavs judicial universe. Sample this: as many as 239 phone calls were exchanged between Yadav and Ravinder Singh (on mobile phones and landlines) during this time. These include 136 calls involving the mobile connection in Ravinder Singhs name given by him to Yadav (88 calls made by Yadav to Ravinder and 48 from Ravinder to Yadav). Another 200 calls were exchanged between Ravinder and Udaibir Singh,PSO of Yadav. So,in all 439 calls. A total of 426 calls were exchanged between Sanjiv Bansal and Ravinder Singh (mobiles and landlines) during the same time. In addition,222 calls were exchanged between Ravinder and Jai Parkash Rana (senior munshi). Total: 648 calls. 79 calls were exchanged between Ravinder Singh and Rajiv Gupta.
