It has taken nearly five months for the UT Administration to send a letter of recommendation to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA),asking them to create a post of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for the son of an Inspector who passed away after he was allegedly murdered by a dismissed Chandigarh Police constable.

A fortnight after the demise of the Inspector, the Chandigarh Police had promised his son to provide him a job with the department, yet his case kept pending with the UT Administration for about five months. First reported by Newsline, the UT Administration had earlier justified the delay in sending the file by saying that the department was building a “strong case” for Parminder, the son of slain Inspector Sucha Singh.

“We have sent a letter of recommendation to MHA for creation of post of an ASI for Parminder. Keeping in view the circumstantial evidence that Sucha Singh died while he was in the line of duty,we have asked MHA to relax policy by creating the post for Parminder on compassionate grounds,” said Prerna Puri,Additional Secretary (Home),UT Administration.

Inspector Singh was brutally murdered by dismissed cop Basant Kumar and his lover Sarita on June 8. A fortnight later,Parminder applied for the post of the rank of an ASI. The Chandigarh Police promised Parminder to grant his request and asked the administration to send a letter of recommendation to MHA for consideration. However, the administration kept “working” on his file as a “strong case of justification” was under process.

Thirty-year-old son Parminder,a graduate, was earlier working in Canada, but returned home after his father’s death. He then applied for the post of the rank of an ASI on compassionate grounds.

However, the Chandigarh Police has a provision of providing a post to the kin of a deceased police officer only up to the rank of a Head Constable. It,therefore, sent a letter to the UT Administration for forwarding it to the MHA,seeking relaxation of the policy.

On June 8,Inspector Singh was stabbed several times by Kumar, after the former confronted him and asked his identity. Thereafter,Kumar and Sarita escaped in a police vehicle while Singh was declared dead on arrival at PGI. Later,Kumar was arrested by a special team of Haryana Police from Delhi.
