A case was registered at Pinjore police station under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against the unidentified truck driver.
A 32-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a speeding truck near Shiv Temple, close to Punjab National Bank in Madawala, Pinjore, on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Vijay Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh, who was currently residing in Bihari Colony, Madawala, Pinjore.
The deceased’s wife, Neetu, told the police that Vijay had stepped out around 8.30 pm to buy vegetables when the accident occurred. Within minutes, a neighbour informed her about the mishap.
Neetu told the police that upon reaching the spot, she found her husband lying unconscious beneath the front tyre (conductor’s side) of a truck.
Eyewitnesses said that Vijay was standing by the roadside when the truck, coming from Barotiwala towards Madawala Chowk, hit him at high speed. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene immediately after the collision.
With the help of neighbours, Neetu rushed Vijay to Nanakpur Hospital, from where he was referred to Kalka Hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
Police teams reached the site soon after receiving information and took the truck into custody.
