The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) today launched a scheme of 160 two-bedroom flats in Sector 51-A. The flats are priced at Rs 50 lakh for a ground floor unit and Rs 47 lakh for upper floors.

CHB had floated its last scheme two years ago,in which two-bedroom flats were priced at Rs 29.14 lakh. The brochure and the application form for the scheme are priced at Rs 1,000. Speaking to Newsline,Chandigarh Housing Board Chairman Mohanjeet Singh said that the flats will have rich specifications like marble flooring, modular kitchens, lots of green areas, solar water heating systems and other energy-saving features.

“This is the fastest scheme to be implemented by the Board. By next month, tenders for construction will be out. The draw of lots will be held in February and construction work will be allotted in March. We will hand over the flats to the successful allottees by June 2012,” he said. Singh revealed that the Board has also gone in for a new system of assured allotment for 16 flats. “Sealed bids will be taken for these flats against a reserve price of Rs 50 lakh. We will calculate the average of the top 16 bids and these bidders will be given the flats at this average price,” he said.

The Board had earlier considered making outsiders and NRIs eligible for applying. This,he said, would have called for an amendment in the Board’s rules. Later,it was decided to limit the eligibility to residents of Chandigarh only.
