24 teachers to receive Chandigarh state awards, commendations on Teachers’ Day
According to an official order issued by the Directorate of School Education, UT Chandigarh, the awards aim to celebrate the dedication of some of the finest teachers in the city and acknowledge their role in enriching the lives of students.

The Chandigarh Administration has announced the names of 24 teachers who will be honoured with the State Teachers’ Award and Commendation Certificates on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on September 5. The awards recognise outstanding educators from government, government-aided, and private schools for their commitment, innovation, and contribution to improving the quality of education in the Union Territory.
According to an official order issued by the Directorate of School Education, UT Chandigarh, the awards aim to celebrate the dedication of some of the finest teachers in the city and acknowledge their role in enriching the lives of students.
Government school educators dominate list
Among government schools, three teachers have been selected for the State Award:
- Sukhpal Kaur, principal, GMSSS-21
- Dharamender, HM, GMHS-Karsan
- Kamljit Kaur, PGT, GGSSS-20B
Another teacher, Sukhveer Kaur from GMSSS-56, has also been named for the State Award.
Several others, including Sangeeta Gulati (principal, GMSSS-19), Seema Sharma (PGT, GMSSS-22A), and Rupinder Kaur (TGT, GHS-53), will receive Commendation Certificates. The list also includes teachers from multiple categories such as TGTs, PGTs, headmasters, and JBT/NTTs.
Private school teachers among awardees
From private schools, G Nithya of St Joseph’s School, Sector 44, will receive the State Award.
The teachers named for Commendation Certificates include:
- Anupam Lekhi, Sacred Heart Sr Sec School, Sector 26
- Meenakshi Jindal, Carmel Convent School, Sector 9
- Rashi Srivastava, St Joseph’s School, Sector 44
- Deepali Garg, Sacred Heart Sr Sec School, Sector 26
- Harpreet Malvai, Carmel Convent School, Sector
Honouring educators’ excellence
“The purpose of the State Award/Commendation is to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers of UT Chandigarh and to honour them for their hard work, which has not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students,” the order states.
The awards will be conferred at an official function on Friday as part of the Teachers’ Day celebrations.
